A Copeland Spode "Old Bow" lidded tureen. It is a popular antique and vintage tableware pattern first registered in 1912 (Registration No. 599813). It is a "Chinoiserie" style design, featuring a central multi-coloured flower basket, a cream underglaze, and intricate rolling floral borders.
Design Style: Chinoiserie floral, often hand-coloured over a transfer print.
Registration Numbers: Primarily 599813 (registered in 1912).
You can typically date "Old Bow" pieces by examining the backstamp on the underside:
Copeland Crown: Many pieces are impressed with the Copeland crown mark.
Late Spode: The mark "Copeland Late Spode" was used to maintain the reputation of the original Spode brand after the Copeland family took over.
Date Codes: Look for impressed date marks; common production years for this pattern range from 1918 to 1953.
Retailer Marks: Some sets were produced exclusively for high-end retailers, such as Harrods.
It is in lovely condition for its age, with some crazing you the lid and minor glaze wear.
It measures 6" tall x 11.5" long x 9" wide.
I am happy to answer your questions about this piece or any other items in my shop.
