A pair of antique salad serving utensils retailed by the Army & Navy Co-operative Society Ltd (A & N C S L) Founded in 1871 by a group of British military officers, the London-based society supplied high-quality goods—ranging from fine silverware to military equipment—exclusively to members of the armed forces and civil services.
Dating the Pieces: The name changed to "The Army & Navy Stores Ltd" in 1934. These utensils are stamped with the original initials A & N C S L, they can be dated anywhere from the late Victorian era up to 1934.
Design & MaterialsThe Handles:
Beautifully crafted from heavy cut glass (frequently styled in a classic diamond or starburst pattern), designed to provide a comfortable grip and elegant weight balance.
The Bowls: The silver-plated (EPNS) or sterling silver bowls feature detailed engraved floral and leaf motifs.The Set: It features a matching two-piece configuration, including a wide, deep serving spoon and a coordinated serving fork (with spaced tines/notches) designed to efficiently toss and serve salad greens.
They are in lovely vintage condition, no chips. There is some wear to the area where the metal joins the glass, however still a lovely usable set.
They measure 11.75" and 10.75" long x 2.5" wide.
