A lovely pair of Simon Peter Gerz German Westerwald stoneware vases.
Westerwald pottery, or Westerwald stoneware, is a distinctive type of salt glazed grey pottery from the Höhr-Grenzhausen and Ransbach-Baumbach area of Westerwaldkreis in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. Typically, Westerwald pottery is decorated with cobalt blue painted designs, although some later examples are white. The salt glaze creates a glossy surface. It is also known as Kannenbäckerland stoneware.
This is a near pair, one is 1/2cm shorter and 1cm narrower.
Vase 1 measures 29.5cm tall, 15cm wide, has a base diameter of 9cm and a rim diameter of 8.5cm. Weight - 1016g.
Vase 2 measures 29cm tall, 14cm wide, has a base diameter of 9cm and a rim diameter of 8cm. Weight - 983g.
Both are in excellent condition.
